The new Seltos comes with a 2.0L engine that makes 146 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the wheels through an intelligent variable transmission (IVT), and all-wheel drive is standard. The Seltos averages 29 miles per gallon, with 27 mpg city and 31 mpg highway. With the available front-wheel drive, those numbers jump to 31 mpg combined (28 city/34 highway).
A more powerful 1.6L turbo-four is available on the X-Line and SX trims. It pumps out 195 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque and comes standard with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. This turbocharged powertrain manages a decent 25 mpg on average (24 city/27 highway).
Interior Space and Comfort
For a small SUV, the Seltos has a surprisingly roomy interior. The cabin seats five, with 41.4 inches of legroom up front and 38 inches in the rear. It offers 26.6 cubic feet of cargo volume, which beats what you’ll find in the competition. For even more space, you can fold down the rear seats to get 62.8 cubic feet of cargo room.
The cabin is outfitted with woven cloth seats, but you can find Syntex seats in higher trims. Available comforts include automatic air conditioning, heated front seats, a 10-way power driver’s seat, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Ventilated front seats and a power sunroof are optional on select trims.
Audio and Connectivity
The Seltos offers an 8-inch touchscreen center display on the base LX and a larger 10.25-inch unit on all the other trims. With Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, you can wirelessly sync your phone and use your favorite social, entertainment, and navigation apps on the screen.
Most trims have a 6-speaker stereo, but the SX takes audio up a notch with a more premium 8-speaker Bose system. A 10.25-inch instrument display is also available to replace the standard 4.2-inch gauge cluster. Two USB-C charging ports come standard, and a wireless charging pad is optional.
Safety Technology
Safety comes first with Kia, which is why all Seltos models are equipped with a suite of driver-assist tech. You’ll get a forward collision-avoidance assist system that brakes automatically if there’s a potential collision with a car in front, a pedestrian, or a cyclist. Other standard features include lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane following assist, and driver attention warning. Adaptive cruise control, blind spot collision warning, and rear cross-traffic alert are available.
